~Lancaster Historic Farm House Estate Sale~

Good day, folks! Come on out and visit us this weekend, starting November 17th in Old Lancaster, at the historic Winniford House. There is easy access from either I-35E or I-45 South at Beltline Road. It’s just a straight shot south of the “Big D” and a hair north of Red Oak, Texas! This property is situated on 150-plus lush acres surrounded by horse pastures and gorgeous oak trees. Arrive through the heavily treed drive and pass the main house to enter into the slightly uneven terrain at the old barn. You will just fall in love with the stunning views. That’s what the previous owner loved about it, too!

Winn Morton had incredible taste and style, which translates into every choice in the house. The Winniford House was built in 1913 and designed with the typical foursquare plan of a Prairie School style home. It features a large hipped roof, dormers and many distinctive multi-light windows. The residence has been little altered but retains most of its original furnishings and other fittings. The home was restored by Morton and his partner, Harry Lewis, in 1977, but the character of the house remains otherwise intact.

The late Winn Morton (1928 – 2022) had an impressive legacy, spanning seven decades.  His experiences include running off to join the circus in his early teens, being accepted at the Ringling School of Art, attending the Parsons School of Design, and joining the United Scenic Artists Union. Morton’s early career highlights included “The Arthur Godfrey Show” at CBS, the Roxy Theater, and the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Bandleader Guy Lombardo also engaged Morton for 17 years to design hundreds of costumes for the Jones Beach Marine Theater. He was also retained as Art Director for Six Flags Show Productions.

One of Morton’s greatest passions was designing circus costumes for the Hanneford Circus and Circus Vargas. He created costumes for their performers, ringmasters, and even elephants. One of Morton’s most noted achievements was “The Living Unicorn” for the 115th Edition of the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1985.

Morton’s accomplishments include designing costumes and sets for the Texas Rose Festival for 35 years, as well as designing extravagant charity balls and lavish parties for prominent Dallas socialites throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

In 2019, film producer and director Ashley Bush also made a short film titled “The Queen’s New Clothes” which captured the essence of Winn Morton and the scope of his work. It is available on Amazon for viewing for those with inquisitive minds!

The Estate of Winn Morton features some super finds in the home this week that you’ll have to see to appreciate! With a fine eye, many were selected from the East Coast, as well as Texas. Many were restored and brought back to their former beauty and are even better than new! Please make sure to map the address just in case there is no prominent street signage! Look for our DES signs. Come by to see us and say ‘hello’ to the gang! There’s something here for everyone, and it ALL has to go!!

** Current pictures posted are just to give a feel for the style of sale. Not all items pictured may be available at the sale. Final pictures will be posted week of November 15th.
